Four gold medals for Denmark – one for Spain

Mette Poulsen and Frederik Colberg each won two finalsThe five finals of the 2009 European U17 Championships were played on Sunday, and it became a great success for Denmark, as they won four out of five events. Spain took the last gold medal, as the big favourite Carolina Marin lived up to the expectations in the women’s singles.

Mette Poulsen and Frederik Colberg each won two individual gold medals.

Frederik Colberg - ready for two finalsThe quarter and the semi finals of the 2009 European U17 Championships were played in Medvode on Saturday. Denmark dominated the day by being represented in 9 of the 10 semi finals.

Frederik Colberg, Mette Poulsen and Neslihan Yigit will all be playing in two finals on Sunday.

Carolina Marin from Spain - favourite in the women's singlesMost of the preliminary rounds of the 2009 European U17 Championships have been played, and the deciding medal matches are getting closer. Many interesting battles have been fought – and as always a few upsets have occurred.

All top seeded players are however still in the tournament, while a few third seeded players/pairs have been knocked out.
